#janelflyssolo – Belize & Guatemala

janel vacation

Everyone thought I was insane when I booked a solo flight to Belize for Christmas day–turned out to be one my best ideas.

After spending Christmas morning at home, I grabbed my bag, drove to the airport, hopped on the plane and didn’t look back.

It was a quick trip–but an unforgettable one.

I met some incredible people on this wild adventure!

We swam with sharks, hiked through the jungle, trekked through caves, drank ourselves silly with the locals, and spent nights on the beach till 5am.

If you ever get the chance to travel Belize or Guatemala–do it!

I took my GoPro along to capture as much as I could. Here’s just a snap of my 10 day trip!

toDIYfor – Geometric Decor

Geometric

These pieces are very trendy right now and as always, I’m too cheap to buy the real deal.

I found a way to make them for next to nothing.

All you need is a few straws, fishing line, and spray paint.

It took me way to long to figure out the easiest way to do this. On the plus side, you don’t have to waste your time doing that now.

Check out the full tutorial here.

toDIYfor – Marbled Easter Eggs & Paper

easter eggs

This may be the first time I’ve ever bought shaving cream.

No, I’m not an amazon woman with hairy legs… I’m just to cheap to buy it to shave–soap works just fine.

I will however, buy it for my DIYs.

This is a fun new way to colour your Easter eggs this year. The same technique has a great effect on paper too.

Get some gloves. Trust me.

The domino effect…

domino effect

A series of unfortunate events left me with a broken closet last weekend.

It all started with a broken glass. I knocked my cup off the coffee table while visiting with my brother and his girlfriend when they came up for a visit. Sure enough that glass had to shatter next to the air mattress we had blown up for them to sleep on.

In an effort to clean this up before the glass popped the mattress, I went hunting for my little dust buster. Of course it was at the top of my  coat/shoe closet…a shelf that is way to high for me to reach. Instead of grabbing a stool or chair…or waiting for my taller brother to grab it–I … Continue Reading

toDIYfor – Honeycomb Hexagon Shelves

IMG_0605

I had to eat 247 popsicles to make these shelves. The brain freeze was awful–but totally worth it.

Okay I didn’t actually, but had you asked a 10 year old me…eating that many popsicles over the course of the summer sounds pretty plausible.

In reality these shelves cost about $5 total to make.

Popsicle sticks, super glue, and some wood stain. Surprisingly they are fairly sturdy and can hold some weight.

That time my mom had to mail me my wallet.

Screen Shot 2016-02-22 at 8.18.34 PM

No, this isn’t an old story. It happened last week.

Waking up at 3:07am to go to work after a long weekend is bad enough as it is…Doing all of that and realizing your wallet is nowhere to be found–that’s just fantastic.

I drove a full 2 1/2 hrs from my parents place, to my apartment, and went to bed without realizing I didn’t have my purse!!

I probably should have been a little more worried about this… I had no license…health card…credit/debit cards…or cash. I had nothing! You’d think I’d be worried about driving without a license.. or the fact that I had no ID. NOPE. My biggest concern was … Continue Reading

toDIYfor – Beach Coverup

Screen Shot 2016-02-18 at 9.35.34 PM

I screwed this up about 3 times before I got it right–so I’m surprised it turned out as good as it did.

After being stormed in for the entire weekend… I’ve had the beach on my mind.

Sure the beers are nice in cold sitting in that snowbank…but they taste a little better when I have some sand between my toes.

Sadly I won’t be hopping on a plane anytime soon–but it seems everyone else is! If you’re headed south … Continue Reading

Yesterday I re-newed my vows

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 9.35.27 PM

I guess I can’t say ‘re-newed’ if I never took them in the first place…

Yesterday (Feb 9th) marks 1 year at Country 89 for me (even though we didn’t go live on the air until Feb 20th).

I started strolling into work to get to know this man Rob I’d be spending every morning with… we’ve gotten to know each other quite well since.

This past year has been a bit of a whirlwind for a number of reasons. I don’t know where the year went. My life got flipped upside down. A lot changed. Some good, some bad. On those bad days–being in the studio always … Continue Reading

My mind exploded this weekend.

For anyone who saw me screaming my friends name on the sidewalk in Toronto this weekend–I’m sorry.

I spent the weekend visiting a new friend in the city. Saturday night he told me we were going out for one of his friends birthdays. I had figured I’d spend the night meeting new people, not the case.

The plan was to go to this bar that has fun games like shuffle board set up. By the time we showed up (10:15pm…which is pretty early if you ask me) the lineup was huge. While re-evaluating the plan I heard a familiar voice. I glance over and see my college roommate. YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. I’m screaming  “K-RONNNN!” and running … Continue Reading

toDIYfor – Table Makeover with Colouring Book

Screen Shot 2016-02-04 at 7.52.42 PM

As I write this I’m listening to “Stressed Out” by Twenty One Pilots.

How fitting.

Despite popular belief…adult colouring books are NOT stress relievers. In fact it’s quite the opposite for me.

Did I pick the right colours? Is this the right shade? Is my pencil sharp enough to get into those little details?

4 hrs later I’m only half way done the picture. My hand is so cramped I want to cut it off.

Regardless of ALL of that, this DIY was so worth it. … Continue Reading
